Our Mission

Our chapter’s purpose is to unite, in a central organization, owners and non-owners of Model A Fords who are interested in restoring, researching, maintaining, and driving the Model A in its original likeness. We share our knowledge, information, ideas, parts, tools, and mechanical skills, and embrace new members with the promise of good things and great times to come.

Hey, we’re fun!

The Sonoma A’s are a very active, diverse and fun loving group who enjoy the good fortune of living and playing in Sonoma County; California’s original Wine Country! Our Mediterranean climate allows us to be active most of the year, and we strive to have several events each month.

Most of our members are Sonoma County locals, but several are from neighboring counties and even different states, from Oregon to Tennessee!

Local Tours

Local tours have included historical sites and museums, poker runs, mystery tours, wine tours, kite-flying beach parties, botanical tours, “breakdown” tours, manifold cookouts, and an annual tour with our cohorts - the Redwood Empire Model T Club.

Overnight and Extended Tours

The Turlock Swap Meet, Lake County Spring Opener, NCRG Roundup, and Northwest Regional Meet, are annual touring events.

Our Model A’s have traveled extended tours to the western states and Canada, and to MAFCA National meets in New England, Texas, Michigan, Colorado, and British Columbia, with members keeping us apprised of their daily jaunts by blogs or emailed reports with photos. Our memorable Park-to-Park Tour in 2016 included travel through nine States and eleven National Parks!

Club Events

We typically have an annual summer BBQ, a really scary Halloween Party, and end the year with the election and installation of Officers at our annual Christmas Party. Our popular “Meet & Eat” Second-Saturday Breakfasts and Third--Thursday ice cream socials provide another option to get your car out and socialize. Locations vary throughout the county. No tour leader, just show up hungry!

Garage Days

Are you afraid of driving that old A because it might break down? Don’t be - it has happened to all of us! Every breakdown is an opportunity to identify mechanical problems, and there are usually members on tour who have experience and spare parts for most situations. Our educational hands-on Garage Days are drawing large crowds as we all learn together. It’s a great opportunity to build your knowledge and gain confidence in maintaining your Ford Model A for safe, dependable touring.

Extensive Library and Tools

The club maintains an extensive library of videos featuring technical instruction for Model A restoration and mechanics, as well as a few of historical interest. Free to members, our library also includes the Model A Restoration Guidelines & Judging Standards, and the Fashion Guidelines.

A wide collection of tools, some specific to the Model A, are available for checkout to members-only at no charge.

Era Fashions

Era fashions are frequently worn at national and regional events, and our annual Christmas party. With MAFCA fashion judges in our group we offer occasional seminars on era fashions or clinics, such as making your own hats or preserving original garments. See our Era Fashion page for more information.

Be a part of major events

We have planned and hosted several events including NCRG Roundups, the MAFCA National Awards Banquet in 2011, and the Welcome Party for the MAFCA National Convention in Reno in 1998 and 2018. See our photo albums and event programs on our Hosted Events page.

Every event has expanded our circle of friends and culminated in fond memories of food, Fords, and great fun!
